East Coast Storm System

The first major storm system of fall 2020 has arrived on the East Coast, according to CNN. Over 15 million residents, from Louisiana to North Carolina, are at risk of severe weather threats, including damaging winds, isolated tornados, heavy rain, and flash flooding.

This storm system will also produce snowfall from the Ohio Valley to the Eastern Great Lakes. According to Nick Austin, Director of Weather Analytics and Senior Meteorologist at FreightWaves, Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, Charleston, WV and Pittsburgh, PA, could see 3 to 4 inches of snowfall through Tuesday, December 1st. Additionally, Northwestern Indiana, Benton Harbor, MI, Cleveland, OH, and Erie, PA, could see as much as 8 to 18 inches of snowfall by Tuesday.

Due to wind conditions, drivers should be prepared for whiteout weather conditions for the following interstates:

  • I-70
  • I-76
  • I-80
  • I-90

As of 0930 (EST), Monday, November 30th, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following weather alerts:

  • Ohio River Valley, Pittsburg, PA, Southwest PA, northern WV, and Garnet County, PA, are under a winter storm warning from 0100 (EST) Tuesday, December 1st until 0700 (EST) Wednesday, December 2nd.
  • A winter storm warning remains in effect from 1900 (EST) Monday, November 30th, to 1000 (EST), Wednesday, December 2nd, for portions of North Central and Northeast OH.
  • A winter storm warning remains in effect from 0100 (EST) Tuesday, December 2nd, to 1600 (EST) Wednesday, December 2nd for Southern Erie and Crawford counties in OH.
  • A winter storm warning remains in effect until 1200 (EST) Tuesday, December 1st for the East Tennessee Mountains.
  • A winter storm warning is in effect until 0900 (EST) Tuesday for LaPorte and Starke counties, IN, and Berrien County, MI.
  • A winter storm warning in effect from 0700 (EST) Monday, November 30th, to 1200 (EST) Tuesday, December 1st, for the North Carolina Counties bordering the Tennessee Border from Avery to Graham.
  • A winter storm warning in effect from 0400 (EST), Monday, November 30th, to 1900 (EST), Tuesday, December 1st, for Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph Counties in WV.
