According to CNN, the first Nor’Easter of the season will bring 18-24 inches of snow to the East coast and bring along gusty winds and coastal flooding with the potential for power outages. In anticipation to the storm, New Jersey’s governor has declared a state of emergency. During intense bands of the storm, residents can expect visibility to drop to zero, and areas may experience rare instances of thundersnow.
FreightWaves anticipates the heavy snowfall and strong winds will delay freight flows in the northeast throughout the week, impacting key freight markets like Harrisburg, PA, Allentown, PA, and Elizabeth, NJ.
Carriers and shippers should prepare for potential road closures on significant interstates, including:
- I-95
- I-84
- I-81
- I-80
- I-76
- I-70
The National Weather Service has announced the following warnings:
- Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York are under a winter storm warning until 0600 (EST) Tuesday, February 2nd.
- Portions of southeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island are under a winter storm warning until 0100 (EST) Tuesday, February 2nd. Residents can expect 6-14 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 50 MPH.
- Portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern, and northeastern and western Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island are under a winter storm warning until 0500 (EST) Tuesday, February 2nd. Residents can expect snow accumulations of 7-15 inches and wind gusts as high as 45 MPH.
- Portions of central, northern, and northwest New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania are under a winter storm warning until 1300 (EST) Tuesday, February 2nd. The region can see snow accumulations of 10-15 inches and wind gusts as high as 40 MPH.
- Portions of northern New Jersey and east central and northeast Pennsylvania are under a winter storm warning until 1300 (EST) Tuesday, February 2nd. The region can see snow accumulations of 16-22 inches and wind gusts as high as 35 MPH.
